Mary Bason Broadfoot was born February 17, 1920, in Ithaca, NY, the daughter of the George Bason and Mary Reuther Bason. During World War II, Broadfoot a civilian worker on an Army base in Colorado Springs, Colo., in 1944. In 1945, she married Major William G. Broadfoot, Jr. The couple eventually settled in Wilmington, N.C.

Broadfoot was active socially and a member of St. James Parish, North Carolina Colonial Dames and Past President, Lower Cape Fear Historical Society, St. John’s Museum of Art, North Carolina Museum of Art, Wilmington Symphony Orchestra, N.C. Symphony, League of Women Voters Wilmington Chapter, Friends of U.N.C.W., Thalian Hall and Cape Fear Museum, Stephen Ministry, Cape Fear Country Club, The Surf Club, Past President of the Wilmington Junior League and had a special interest in Brevard Music Center. Mrs. Broadfoot was a graduate of Hannah Moore Academy, Ithaca High School, Randolph Macon Women’s College and U.N.C. at Chapel Hill. She died Friday, October 27, 2005.
