Charleston (S.C.) businessman. William Ravenel was a member of the mercantile firm of Ravenel & Co., a cotton factorage and importing business. He was the son of Daniel Ravenel (1762-1807). In 1836 William Ravenel married Eliza Butler Pringle (1814-1888), and their children included James Reid Pringle Ravenel (1840-1930), William Ravenel (1845-1863), and Rose Pringle Ravenel (1850-1943).
