Dr. Walter Lee Thomas served as a physician and professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Duke University from 1937 until the mid-1960s. During World War II, he served on active duty with the 65th General Hospital from 1942 to 1945 and served a three month assignment for the Surgeon General in the Far East in 1949
