Tent City Corporation.

Hide Profile

The Tent City Corporation grew out of the Tent City Task Force (a subcommittee of the South End Project Area Committee). The corporation was founded in 1979 as a "community controlled development organization dedicated to the preservation of decent affordable housing and a multi-racial, multi-ethnic community of low and moderate income people in the South End neighborhood." The members succeeded in building mixed-income housing for residents in danger of being displaced by commercial developers. The Tent City complex is located on Columbus Avenue at Dartmouth Street, the site of the 1968 "Tent City" demonstration.
