G. Milton Small Jr. (1916-1989) was a student of Mies van der Rohe and was one of the foremost modernist architects working in the southeastern United States in the later half of the 20th century. Small moved to Raleigh in 1948 and headed the architectural office of William Henley Deitrick before starting his own firm, G. Milton Small Architects, in 1949.
