Stevens, Lawrence N. (Lawrence Nye), 1915-1999
Variant namesAssociation Director of the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, Dept. of the Interior. Stevens was an advocate of creating outdoor recreation areas to serve urban populations. He was instrumental in protecting Alcatraz Island from development in 1969, and in the development of the Golden Gate National Recreational Area.
