In 1910 a group of people living in Havre organized a Ladies’ Aid with quite a large membership. Rev. A. A. Lunde of Great Falls came occasionally to hold services in a school, and from this group a congregation was formed in 1911. The church was erected in 1913. In 1924 it was remodeled and a bell was installed which continues to ring in the present building.
In 1915 a congregation was established in Cottonwood, a rural area north of Havre. In 1922 a building was erected and a pastor from Havre came to conduct services. In 1951 the Cottonwood members transferred to the Havre church.
In 1913 a small frame church was built on the corner or 10th avenue and 4th street and the congregation was renamed First Lutheran. In 1918 a parsonage was built, and in 1933 and 1938 building projects were undertaken to remodel and enlarge the church. The present church was begun in 1948 and completed December 30, 1951.
