Herman Rumsey (b. 1918, Baltimore, Md.-d. Jan. 12, 1994), U.S. Air Force officer, graduated from university and entered aviation cadet training in 1939, receiving his commission the following year. During his early career he served as flight instructor, squadron commander, director of training, and group commander. He had a long and distinguished career with the Military Air Transport Service beginning in 1948 with assignments in the Pacific and Far East areas. In 1964 he assumed command of MAC's 61st Military Airlift Wing in Hawaii, directing airlift operations in an area stretching from mid-Pacific Ocean west to Pakistan and from Japan to Antarctica. General Rumsey retired in 1967.
