Daniel Whipple was probably born in Groton, CT sometime in the early 1700's. He moved northward as indicated by a bond dated 1769 at Brattleboro, VT and by 1770 he was living in Westminster, VT (then part of Cumberland County N.Y.). Whipple was appointed to the shrievalty of Cumberland County in April of 1770, a post he held until 1772. Whipple died in the early months of 1775 as indicated by the letters of administration taken out by his wife Mary in April of 1775.
