The Civil War Centennial Commission of Illinois was established by the Illinois General Assembly in 1959 to plan and administer programs commemorating the centennial of the Civil War.

The commission was comprised of members of the State Senate and House of Representatives, several Illinois citizens and the State Historian. The commission promoted activities and the publication of several books and educational material pertaining to Illinois' role in the Civil War. The commission hosted the eighth and final National Assembly of the United States Civil War Commission in Springfield in 1965.
