Hebrew Translation Workshop.

The Hebrew Translation Workshop began in London in 1971 and was known initially as the "Hebrew Poetry Workshop." The Workshop met twice yearly, mainly in London but sometimes in Cambridge or Yarton, near Oxford, until the death of the one of its primary organizers, Risa Domb (1937-2007). Founded on the initiative of Professor Raphael Loewe of Cambridge, the Hebrew Translation Workshop was run by Professor Nicholas de Lange and in later years by the aforementioned Risa Domb, University Lecturer in Modern Hebrew at Cambridge University and Life Fellow of Girtion College. The Workshop provided a collegial atmosphere in which the participants could discuss their own translations of texts in botyh Hebrew and English, helping both to promote Israeli literatu4re and raise the level of literary translation from Hebrew. Early participants included among others Bernard Lewis, David Daiches, Peter Jay, Peter Levi, Benjamin Tammuz, Leon Yudkin, and Anthony Rudolf. Many of the translations were subsequently published.
