Formed in Melbourne in 1938 to foster love of Australian literature, art and music. The Club published a monthly newsletter, "Bohemia", which was devoted to Australian literature. J.K. Moir was foundation President.

The Bread and Cheese Club was formed in 1938, with J. E. Moir as foundation Fellow. It aimed to promote Australian art and literature. By 1947, the Club had 200 members and had published over 40 books.
