Society of the Sigma Xi. University of Oregon Chapter.

Hide Profile

Sigma Xi was founded in 1886 (nationally) to honor excellence in scientific investigation and encourage a sense of companionship and cooperation among researchers in all fields of science and engineering. The Oregon Chapter was formally installed on June 22, 1923 after a two year effort. Of the twenty-five charter members, some were located at University of Oregon while others were at the Medical School in Portland. During the first decade, the chapter initiated over 121 active members including faculty and students. Associate memberships were granted to about 175 people, many of whom were graduate students. Today, the fraternity is inactive.
