Wells family.
Elm Farm: established soon after 1700; descended in Van Wickle family to the wife of the Rev. Abraham Beach; subsequently descended through their daughter Hannah Rattoone (d. 1848) to her niece Julia Beach Lawrence (1809-1870), the wife of Thomas Lawrence Wells, followed in turn by her son Lawrence Wells (1836-1911) from whom it passed to his daughter, Julia L. Wells; purchased by Rutgers Preparatory School in 1957 or 1958.
Thomas Lawrence Wells: Lawyer; born 1799; lived in New York City and, later, in New Brusnwick, Middlesex County, New Jersey; died 1886.
Abraham Beach: Minister; graduated from Yale College in 1757.
