Richard Fullerton was born in Jersey City, NJ in 1915. He graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine in 1938. After service in the Army, Fullerton joined the Air Force and worked in the Photography Lab at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He was employed there first in the service and then as a civilian for thirty years until he retired in 1972. In addition to his collecting photographic images, Fullerton was interested in model railroading and genealogy, all of these he actively pursued in his retirement. Fullerton died in February of 1990 at the age of 75.
One of Fullerton's many interests was the life and work of Jane Reece (1868-1961), an internationally known Dayton photographer, an associate of Steiglitz and Steichen, and one of the first professional female photographers in the United States.
