Boston Normal School

In 1872 the Boston Normal School separated from Girls High School to become an independent institution that trained teachers for the elementary grades. The Normal School became the Teachers College of the City of Boston in 1924, and, later, Boston State College. Boston State College merged with UMass/Boston in 1982.
