The Economic Development Commission, State Tourist Bureau, and the State Bureau of Publications were abolished in 1959 and their duties were transferred to the newly created Department of Development (1959 NM Laws, Chp. 58, Sec. 1-11). The Department consisted of the governor-appointed Development Advisory Board and the following three divisions: Industrial, Tourist, and Publications. In 1971, an act repealed the 1959 statute and restructured and re-established Department of Development (1971 NM Laws, Chp. 237, Sec. 1-7). The 1971 act also abolished the Development Advisory Board and transferred its duties to the Board of Economic Development within the Department of Development. In 1976 a Motion Picture Promotion Division was added to the Department (1976 NM Laws, Chp. 26, Sec. 1-2). The Department was abolished in 1977 and its duties were transferred to the newly created Commerce and Industry Department (1977 NM Laws, Chp. 245, Sec. 1-236). The duties of the Department of Development were to create, promote, and implement a statewide economic development program.
