Hide Profile

La Compañia de Teatro de Alburquerque was formed in January 1977 to provide a forum for professional development of the bilingual drama professionals and to preserve the rich Hispanic heritage of New Mexico. Dr. Miguel Encinias, then Director of the Multicultural Education Program at the University of Albuquerque, extended an invitatiom to actor-director José Rodríguez to conduct a workshop in Spanish drama for bilingual student teachers. The enthusiastic response to the workshop led to the formation of the theater company. La Compañia focused on presenting new works by native New Mexican writers, as well as a selection of works from contemporary Latin American and Spanish language classics.
