Between 1894 and 1895, A. Schlosshauer served as captain of Windward, the ship of the British Exploring Expedition (Jackson-Harmsworth Polar Expedition), 1894-1897 (leader Frederick Jackson). Between 31 July and 5 August 1894, Windward called at Arkhangel'sk before sailing to Yugorskiy Shar where the expedition picked up dogs. In September, the ship landed at Mys Flora on Ostrov Nordbruk where winter quarters were established. Ice prevented Windward from returning home in autumn as planned so the ship wintered close to the base camp. The following July, Schlosshauer took the ship back to London.
