Edward Robson (1763-1813), botanist, was born in Darlington on 17 October 1763, and worked in the town as a linen draper at High Row. He became an associate of the Linnean Society in 1790, and in 1793 was a founding member and treasurer of the Society for Promoting the Study of General and Natural History and Antiquities. Robson wrote on the flora of county Durham. He died at Tottenham, Middlesex, on 21 May 1813.
