Dickman was born in Fullerton, California where he lived for the first eight years of his life. Dickman and his family then moved to the Bay Area in California for six years before moving to Tigard, Oregon. After serving a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bilbao, Spain (1997-1999) Dickman returned to Provo, Utah to continue his education at Brigham Young University. In August of 2001 Dickman married his wife Nanci in the Portland, Oregon LDS temple. In December 2002 Dickman graduated from Brigham Young with a bachelor's degree in Advertising and a double minor in English and Music.
