Cyril Paul Pesek was born on May 30, 1904 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He earned his degree in architectural engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1925. He began his own architectural practice in 1929, after spending four years as a draftsman. In 1931, he partnered with Glynne Shifflet; this partnership lasted until 1942. In 1944, Pesek was hired as engineer and architect for 3M; he chose the location for the current 3M headquarters in Maplewood, MN and headed the team that designed the company's buildings throughout the world. He retired from 3M in 1969 as vice president of architecture, engineering and manufacturing. Cyril Pesek died in July 1995.
