On August 4, 1889 the present Kent Lutheran congregation was formed under the name “Den Skandinaviske Evangeliske Luterske Menighet.” In 1890 construction of a church building began. The Norwegian language was used until 1926. In 1938 the church site was needed to expand the Elementary School, so the building was moved to 5th and Gowe. The present site was then purchased and a new church was built. It was dedicated September 10, 1939, fifty years after the organization of the congregation. Ground adjoining the church was purchased for a parsonage, which was completed in 1942. The present education building was completed in 1949. Groundbreaking for the present church was on Sunday, April 13, 1969. The first service there was February 15, 1970.
