John Murphy accompanied Leichhardt's expedition to Port Essington, Northern Territory, in 1844. His sister married J.O. Bradly, a business partner of John and his father James Murphy. Edward Bradly, presumably the son of J.O. Bradly, was employed by Sydney Burdekin, and managed the Burdekin estate after Sydney's death. J.B. Bettington, shipping agent merchant and pastoralist, arrived in Australia in 1827. He was a member of the then Agricultural Society of New South Wales.
