Lewitan, Joseph D., 1894-1976
Variant namesPart of the bequest of Joseph D. Lewitan, dance critic and founder of Der Tanz, and his wife, the former Maryinsky ballerina and ballet teacher Eugenia Eduardova. Emigres from Russia, the political situation in Europe in the 1930's and later, the Second World War, resulted in their moving from Germany to France, then Casablanca and finally the United States, where Mr. Lewitan was employed by the United Nations.
