Christ Church (Southern Cross, W.A.)

Gold was found in the Southern Cross area in 1897 and the township was proclaimed in 1890. Church of England services were held in various locations from 1890 and the first church (Christ Church) was bult in 1891. A new church, also Christ Church, was consecrated in 1907. Church of England services were held in Western Australia from the colony's inception in 1829. The Church of England in Australia was established in 1962 and, in 1981, became the Anglican Church of Australia.
