Iowa State University. Dept. of Athletics. Men's Gymnastics.

Hide Profile

The Iowa State Men's Gymnastics program was created in 1961 and competed for the first time in 1963. The program only had two coaches over thirty-two seasons: Ed Gagnier (1963-1983) and Dave Mickelson (1984-1994). They completed seven undefeated seasons (1970-1971, 1973-1975, 1977, 1981), won ten Big 8 Conference titles (1965-1967, 1969-1975) and three NCAA titles (1971, 1973-1974). Athletic Director Gene Smith decided that the Men's Gymnastics program was to be eliminated (1994) partly because of financial difficulties and partly because Iowa State was attempting to be more in compliance with Title IX.
