Ruth Kestnbaum Lichterman Pearl was involved in a number of organizations throughout her life, from art to politics, crime to country clubs. She became involved in numerous organizations through her parents: her father was president of Hart, Sheffner & Marx, and was an advisor to President Eisenhower. Her mother was on the board of directors of many associations in Chicago. Ruth Kestnbaum was born in Chicago. She married Howard Lichterman around 1949 and came to Detroit. In 1970 she married Donald Pearl. Mrs. Lichterman became involved in drug abuse prevention activities after being on the Governor's Commission on Crime. In 1974 she started the drug abuse program for Cunningham's Drug Store and became director of the Cunningham Committee Against Drug Abuse. Each activity led to the next and she was constantly being solicited to join the next organization related to it.
