Allis, W. C. (Watson Colt), 1857-1942.
W.C. (Watson Colt) Allis worked for the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, Bureau of Fisheries. He resided primarily in the Pribilof Islands. He took part in a life-threatening whaling expedition in the Arctic Circle in which the ship was frozen in the ice. He also worked for the North American Commercial Co. and the Alaska Commercial Co. Watson was nicknamed the "Dean of Sealers" because of his expertise on the subject of seals and seal life. He died in St. Helena, CA, April 7, 1942.
