Andrew Hamilton was a contemporary of the Arctic explorer and whaler William Penny (1809-1892). In 1850 Penny led the British Franklin Search Expedition, 1850-1851 to the Canadian Arctic Archipelago in search of the missing British Naval Northwest Passage Expedition, 1845-1848 (leader Sir John Franklin)
