Robert Lathan, Sr., D.D., was a prominent Associate Reform Presbyterian minister and amateur historian who graduated from Erskine College (Due West, S.C.) in 1855, and from Erskine Theological Seminary in 1858; Westminster College (New Wilmington, Pa.), awarded him an honorary D.D. degree in 1881; Lathan served a pastorate in Yorkville and Tirzah, S.C., for a total of 25 years, during which time he also taught in the local school system, served as school commissioner, and published works dealing with church and local history, some of which appeared in the Yorkville Enquirer newspaper; father of journalist Robert Lathan, Jr. (1881-937).
