German Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Tennessee was formed in 1820; in 1828 became the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Tennessee; when it disbanded in 1920 it consisted entirely of churches in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, with the last Tennessee church active in 1868; in Dec. 1860 the Evangelical Lutheran Holston Synod was formed billing itself as the Lutheran synod in Tennessee.
