Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 140,000 members of the civil engineering profession worldwide and is America's oldest national engineering society. The Student Chapter at Michigan Technological University was established to afford an opportunity for civil engineering students to become acquainted and to practice working together effectively; promote a spirit of congeniality; and provide friendly contact with the engineering profession.

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has an active student chapter at Michigan Technological University. Some of the activities that civil engineering students participate in are concrete canoe, steel bridge and timber beam design competitions.
