Roush, Katherine McKeown

Katherine McKeown Roush was born in Tucson, Arizona, on June 19, 1946, the daughter of Joseph and Virginia (Conrey) Roush. She was raised in the San Francisco area and studied French at Stanford University on a General Electric Co. scholarship. She studied calligraphy at Reed College. She later attended the University of Montana, majoring in creative writing. While at Stanford she represented the college in the College Bowl television show. In 1977 she moved to the Bitterroot Valley of Montana, where she acquired a ranch with her husband Jon Roush. They later divorced. She was a consciencious steward of her land, nurturing wildlife and plants.

Kathy served on the boards of the Montana Nature Conservancy and the Five Valleys Land Trust. She was an accomplished poet. Katherine McKeown Roush died in Missoula on April 3, 1999. [biographical note condensed from obituary in The Missoulian, April 22, 1999]
