The Pine Grove Furnace was located on Mountain Creek, a branch of Yellow Breeches Creek, fourteen miles southeast of Carlisle in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1770 (other sources say 1764) by Robert Thornburg and John Arthur, and passed through the hands of George Stevenson, Findlay McGrew, Jacob Simons, Michael Ege (lived 1750-1815), Joseph Thornburg, Thomas Thornburg, Peter Ege, and the Watts family.
