Dame Peggy van Praagh achieved prominence as a dancer, ballet teacher and director. She was born in London in 1910. She pursued a career of dance and joined the Ballet Club (later known as Ballet Rambert) in 1933 before moving to the Sadler's Wells Ballet (1941-1945). In 1959, she was invited to Australia to direct the Boranovsky Ballet. The Australian Ballet was formed in 1962 and van Praagh was Artistic Director from 1972-1974.

Dame Peggy van Praagh was born in London, 1910. Dancer with Ballet Rambert from 1933 to 1938, Principal dancer of the London Ballet 1938-1940. Soloist with Sadler's Wells Ballet 1941-1946, Ballet Mistress and Asst. Director with the Sadler's Wells Ballet, 1946-1956. In 1959 she was invited to Australia as Artistic Director of the Borovansky Ballet. In 1962 she became the founding Artistic Director of the Australian Ballet, holding the position until 1974, and temporarily returning in 1978.
