David Meredith Seares Watson (1886-1973) was educated at the University of Manchester where he specialized in geology, graduating in 1907. In 1910 he worked for a year at the British Museum (Natural History) where he was interested in fossil vertebrates from South Africa and soon after was able to visit the country. He worked on his new collections in London from 1912 to 1914. He was Lecturer in Vertebrate Palaeontology at University College London 1912-1921.
He made further collections in Australia and USA. He continued to work as Professor at University College London until 1951. His publications dealt with various aspects of vertebrate paleontology.
