Hans Thompson was born in Seattle, Wash. in 1924 and enlisted in the Army at Pullman, Wash. in 1942. At the time of his enlistment he was unmarried and had completed one year of college. Thompson joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo., later transferred to Camp Swift, Tex. before being sent to Italy. He served with Companies D and I of the 86th Infantry Regiment and Company K of the 85th Infantry Regiment. Thompson attained the rank of First Sergeant and received the Bronze Star Medal for his actions at C. Della Gatte in 1945.
