March 5, 1856 began B.C. Lewis's banking operations. In May 1870, George Lewis begins a partnership with his father and the firm B.C. Lewis and Son. When in 1873, the next son was taken in, it became B.C. Lewis and Sons, until 1889 when the First National Bank in the City of Tallahassee and Leon County took over. They started the State Savings Bank which operated until 1916 when the directors reorganized under a State Charter and were granted a charter authorizing Lewis State Bank. In December 1919, the State Savings Bank was absorbed by the Lewis State Bank as its savings department.
