Austin Seward was born 4 May 1885 and died 11 May 1974 in Lane County, Or. Sources say he spent time working as a sheriff, mill worker, politician, and dairy operator, among other things. Seward worked as a local photographer for Pierson's studio in the early 1920s. He also operated a photography business, apparently called Bainbridge Studio, when he lived on Bainbridge Island. His full name was Austin Hagen Seward.
