William Arthur Jones was born in Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, on 01 May 1818 . His father, William Jones, was a corn merchant. Prior to attending university, William was a student at Carmarthen College. William attended the University of Glasgow from 1838-1841 , taking classes in Logic and Mathematics in his first year; Humanity and Moral Philosophy in his second and Natural Philosophy in his third and final year. He was awarded prizes for Logic and Mathematics in 1839 and Humanities in 1940. He graduated with an MA in 1841 and subsequently became a Unitarian Minister in Northampton (1941-1949), Bridgwater (1949-1952) and Taunton (1952-1966). He later served as a justice of the peace for Taunton and was elected as a fellow of the Royal Geological Society. William died in Taunton on 23 April 1873 .
