The Dean was the primary academic and administrative officer of the School. Responsibilities included planning the budget, leading faculty curriculum development and research programs, representing the school at public functions, serving as liaison with other parts of the University, teaching, student and faculty recruitment.
The Office of the Dean began when the School was established in 1903 and terminated with the School in 1986.
Tyler was not officially appointed dean until 1925, despite the death of William Howard Brett in August 1918.
