South Carolina family. Samuel Wainwright (d. 1780) was a plantation owner of St. George (Dorchester) Parish, St. Paul Parish, and Charleston (S.C.). He also served as a South Carolina state legislator in the House of Representatives. He married Frances Goddard of Charleston, and their only child Samuel died in infancy. Samuel Wainwright's nephew Richard Wainwright (1754-1802) married Ann Dewar (1761-1822) in 1776 in Charleston (S.C.). Their children were: Elizabeth Sarah Wainwright (1777-1842), who married Thomas Wright Bacot (1765-1834), Robert Dewar Wainwright (1781-1841), Mary Wainwright (1788-1861), who married John Bay (1785-1845), Sarah Dewar Wainwright (1789-1826), who married Rev. Paul Trapier Gervais, Ann Wainwright (1791-1799), and Harriet Susannah Wainwright (1797-1858), who married Thomas Wright Bacot (1795-1851).
