The Course and Teacher Evaluation Council, an administrative unit under the Office of the Provost, has compiled and published Course Descriptions and Course Evaluations of classes at Northwestern University since academic year 1971/72. The purpose of both the course descriptions and the evaluations is to provide students with details about classes and teachers at Northwestern beyond the information contained in the Course Bulletin.
Course Evaluations include information gathered from undergraduate courses (A-, B-and C level). Not all schools submit evaluations; for the most part, courses reported on come from the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, the Medill School of Journalism, and the School of Education and Social Policy. Starting with Winter Quarter, 1999, the reports include evaluations of courses in the School of Music. Some schools conduct and publish their own evaluations separately.
From academic years 1971/72 through 1992/93, these evaluations were published in a paperbound format. In 1992/93, evaluations were also posted on the campus database, NUlnfo, and from that year on paper copies were distributed only to each undergraduate dean's office.
