Harold and Romayne Goldberg

Hide Profile

Harold and Romayne Goldberg were one of the most active couples involved in Jewish-related organizations in the Greater Boston area. Mr. Goldberg graduated from Boston University in 1924 and went on to chair the Alumni Fund in 1933. Throughout the thirties he was also a member of the Free Masons, and when World War II broke out, he became a member of the Greater United War Fund, as well as the Associated Jewish Philanthropies.

After the war, Mr. Goldberg became a member of the American Jewish Committee of Greater Boston and the Combined Jewish Appeal (CJA). Since the founding of the State of Israel in 1947, Mr. Goldberg was a staunch supporter of the Jewish state, and he would remain a member of the CJA for the rest of his life. In 1964, he served as the president of the Business Men's Council, a subsidiary group of CJA. He was also a member of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies, America's oldest federated Jewish philanthropic organization, founded in 1895.

Romayne Goldberg was president of the Boston chapter of Hadassah, a Jewish women's organization, from 1948-1951. During her stint as chief executive, Mrs. Goldberg helped raise money and promote awareness of Israel among Jewish women in America. A graduate of Wellesley College, Mrs. Goldberg was also president of the Combined Jewish Appeal and of the Brandeis National Women's Committee.
