Lutes, Della T. (Della Thompson), 1872-
Variant namesLutes (1872-1942) was a popular Michigan author of numerous articles, columns, and books. She was born in Jackson (Mich.) and attended Jackson High School. At age 16 she became a teacher in Jackson County and Detroit city schools. In 1907 she moved to Copperstown (NY) as editor of American Motherhood. She later became the editor of Table Talk and Today's Housewife. In 1924 she became editor and director of the Proving Plant of Modern Priscilla of Boston (Mass.). She was an acknowledge authority on home economics. Her articles were often in leading magazines of the 1930-1940s. Her bestselling books and articles documented country life and cooking in Michigan. She married Louis I. Lutes (1870-1921). They had two sons. She died on July 4, 1942. The Clarke Historical Library has 22 of her books.
