Lucy Komisar, freelance writer, was born in New York City in 1942. She is the daughter of David and Frances (Munshin) Komisar. She received her B.A. from City University of New York in 1964.
LK was editor of the Mississippi Free Press (1962-1963), a human resources administrator (1967-1968), press secretary for the political campaigns of Allard Lowenstein (for U.S. Representative from New York, 1968) and Elinor Guggenheimer (for President of City Council of New York, 1969), and associate producer of WNET-TV (1968-1969). She has been a freelance writer since 1969. She served as Vice President of Public Relations for the National Organization for Women (NOW), resigning in 1971. LK is the author of several books, including The New Feminism (1972), Down and Out in the USA: A History of Social Welfare (1973),and Corazon Aquino: The Story of a Revolutionary (1987).
