Albert (Al) J. Hetzel was born on January 10, 1887, in West Bend, Wisconsin, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hetzel. In 1910, he came to Montana and lived on a homestead at Arrow Creek, in Fergus County. Later, he lived near Chenes Lake, close to Ft. Benton. In 1928 Hetzel and his brother-in-law, Mark Keating, opened the Livingston Milling and Elevator Company in Livingston, Montana. The business was sold to Teslow Company, and Hetzel and his wife Ruth moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where Al went into the real estate business. Al Hetzel died on Januaary 18, 1979, at the age of 92.
