Schmaltz, Gerasin, 1888-1969.
Father Schmaltz was born in Russia and came to America with Bishop Evdokim in 1914. After becoming first a monk, and then a preist in 1916, he went to Alaska as a missionary. From 1936 he lived on Spruce Island and did much to promote the memory of St. Herman of Alaska.
