Kathy Ormond served with the Red Cross' Supplemental Recreational Activities Overseas Program as a recreation aide during the Vietnamese Conflict from July 1968 to October 1969, a program which recruited women college graduates between the ages of 21 and 24. Ormond's service consisted of visiting forward fire bases in a two-member team, frequently by helicopter, and providing breaks for the American troops by creating and putting on programs and supplying games and reading materials for their entertainment and recreation.
